If Everyone Else Jumped Off a Cliff Would You Jump Too?
Posted: 5th April 2012 by steven in Random ThoughtsThe chances of you hearing the title of this blog while growing up is pretty good. We’ve all done something pretty stupid in our time and your answer to the age old question “If everyone jumped off a cliff would you jump too?” was most likely “no”. But did you ever really stop to think about this?
Imagine you’re standing at the edge of the grand canyon for example. You’re gazing off into the deep valleys and suddenly like 20,000 people come running full sprint from behind you. They are all screaming at the top of their lungs and yelling “we need to jump right now!!” as they leap to their deaths. Yes, I said 20,000 people, and I honestly think that 20,000 people can be pretty darn convincing. I’m honestly not so sure I wouldn’t join them but I definitely wouldn’t just stand there.
Now if we take the literal meaning of ‘everyone else’, the world would become a pretty lonely place.. so yeah.. maybe i would.
Sorry Mom.
Communicating has never been easier. We’ve got cell phones, e-mail, Facebook, instant messaging, Skype, and the list goes on. Despite all of these communication avenues, it amazes me how people in this world can be so cowardly and childish when it comes to communicating to address issues. Note to the world: If there is a problem, face it. Problems don’t disappear, they only get suppressed.
Facebook. How crazy is it that I deleted my Facebook account after having it since around 2006? That’s 6 YEARS of my life on the internet. I had over 600 ‘Friends’ and it was a pretty busy place. There was always something going on and there was always someone to talk to. Because of this, Facebook promotes an extremely fast/busy life style. I fell for what i guess what good ‘ol Mark Zuckerburg wanted. To have people addicted to a website where he gets tons and tons of traffic and can market to tons of these people. The thing is that people are way way too dependent on Facebook. I was waking up every day feeling like I needed to ‘get away from it all’, Like i needed another camping trip out where cell phone towers don’t exist but really, I just needed to kiss Facebook goodbye. I do still feel obligated to have some tie to Facebook due to the Rugged Rocks Facebook page but besides that my personal life is off of facebook and I can go on living my life without a giant magnifying glass over my head. maybe I’ll get rid of Facebook for the company too but I’m unsure how severely it’ll affect my business.
I already feel like my day is longer because time isn’t flying by in cyber space. It’s 2:00 on a Thursday afternoon, Business is slow and I’m going for a short hike.
Welcome back to real life.
